Highlights

Banff National Park, including Lake Louise: Canada’s first national park, Banff stuns with its jagged peaks, emerald lakes, and massive icefields. Lake Louise, set within the park, is famed for its photogenic turquoise waters and the grand Fairmont Chateau on its shores. Summer brings alpine hikes and canoeing, while winter transforms the region into a snowy playground ideal for skiing and ice skating.

Calgary Stampede: Held every July, the Calgary Stampede is a ten-day celebration of western heritage and rodeo culture. The city comes alive with cowboy hats, pancake breakfasts, and buzzing festivities, earning its title as "the greatest outdoor show on earth."

Quebec City: Steeped in history and French-Canadian charm, Quebec City is the only walled city north of Mexico. Cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and vibrant culture make its UNESCO-listed Old Town feel like a European escape in North America.

Vancouver & Whistler: Vancouver balances city sophistication with natural beauty. Cycle through Stanley Park, explore Granville Island’s markets, and visit the historic districts of Gastown and Chinatown. Just a short drive up the Sea to Sky Highway lies Whistler, a year-round resort offering epic skiing, mountain biking, and panoramic views from the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

Vancouver Island:

Easily reached by ferry or floatplane, Vancouver Island offers English elegance in Victoria with attractions like Butchart Gardens, plus wilderness adventures further north. The island’s rugged west coast and wildlife lodges are perfect for spotting bears and exploring unspoiled nature.

When to go / useful information

When to go

Canada’s vast geography brings with it incredible diversity in climate. From the snow-covered slopes of British Columbia to the Atlantic coastal towns and Arctic tundra, your ideal time to visit depends on your interests. Skiing is best from November to April, with world-class resorts like Whistler and Banff offering excellent powder. For hiking, festivals, and exploring the great outdoors, the spring and summer months (May to mid-September) are ideal. Fall (late September to October) is spectacular, especially in eastern Canada, when forests blaze with vibrant autumn colours. The further north you travel, the cooler the temperatures, so the warmer months of July and August are best for exploring remote northern regions. Keep in mind that some attractions close in the quieter shoulder seasons of early spring and late autumn.

Useful information

Currency: Canadian Dollar (CAD)
Language: English and French are both official languages. French is predominant in Quebec, and you'll notice regional accents and local expressions, especially in rural areas.

What makes it special: Canada is an outdoor lover’s dream. From the glacier-fed lakes of Banff and the wildlife-rich Great Bear Rainforest to the charming fishing villages of Nova Scotia and the dramatic fjords of Newfoundland, its natural beauty is unparalleled. Friendly locals, thriving Indigenous cultures, and world-class cities add to the appeal. Cosmopolitan centres like Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto offer dynamic art scenes and multicultural dining, while quaint towns and alpine villages offer slower-paced charm. Whether you’re spotting moose in the wild, watching whales breach off the Pacific Coast, hiking glacier trails, or immersing yourself in French-Canadian culture, Canada is an endlessly rewarding destination.

Social customs: Canadians are known for their politeness, respectfulness, and love of the outdoors. Tipping is expected (around 15–20% in restaurants and for services). While English is widely spoken, it’s appreciated if you greet locals in French in areas like Quebec, even with a simple “Bonjour.”
